Volunteer Opportunities Volunteers are the lifeblood of organizations such as Seniors Outreach Services Society - it is through their hard work and dedication to the cause of seniors that we have managed to accomplish so much over the years. We welcome you to joing our group. We ask our volunteers for a minimum 6 month commitment. At present, we have the following volunteer requirements: » Visitor Program: matches clients and volunteers, under the direction of the coordinator. Volunteer visits may be requested directly by the client, her/his family/friends, or by a healthcare professional and are usually arranged on a weekly basis. » Coffee Breaks: Volunteer hosts greet participants, ensure seniors feel welcome, and encourage a sense of belonging. » Community Volunteer Income Tax Program: provides Canada Customs and Revenue Agency training to volunteers who assist limited income individuals prepare their income tax forms. » PALS (Partners Assisting Local Seniors) Program: trains staff of local businesses to recognize signs of risk in the elderly, and provides a telephone number to call for help. » We also requie volunteers for office support, fundraising and special events. Resource Requirements We have an ongoing need for the following resources to better our service and information delivery options: » An accessible and central service location. » Volunteer appreciation resources » Laptops, PCs » Funding for program expansion.
